It is natural to have the motif of a letter even in non-epistolary epic works. They mainly reflect the important thoughts, ideas and outlook of the heroes who are far from each other. These letters play an important role in the architecture of the work, in the development of the plot, and in the occurrence of decisive moments in the fate of the characters. He artistically interpreted the situation in the Russian society of the 19th century and universal problems.
