THE DIFFICULTIES OF TRANSLATING UZBEK VOCABULARY AND IDIOMATIC EXPRESSIONS: LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL CHALLENGES

Abstract
This study critically examines the challenges of translating Uzbek vocabulary and idiomatic expressions into English, primarily due to the inherent linguistic, cultural, and contextual disparities between the two languages. The translation process is complicated by lexical gaps, where certain Uzbek words do not have direct English equivalents, along with instances of polysemy and homonymy that ecessitate careful interpretation.[1] Additionally, many idiomatic expressions are laden with cultural symbolism, further complicating the task.[2] To achieve effective translations, several strategies are essential. These include cultural adaptation, collaboration with native speakers, and finding a balance between fidelity to the original text and readability in the target language.
