SEMANTIC INTERPRETATION OF HANDPRINTS AND PRIMITIVE RELIGIOUS IMAGES REFLECTED IN ROCK STONE IMAGES IN THE KESH OASIS
Bobojonov, Behruz
Annotaciya
The article examines the rock art of Siypantosh and Khoja ovul ming baraka, located near the village of Quruqsoy in the Chirakchi district of the Kashkadarya region. The semantics of the images of these sites, in particular the hand (palm) prints made with red ochre, are analysed by the comparative-historical method against well-known examples of world Stone Age art (Cosquer, Altamira, Gargas, Chauvet, El Castillo, Maros, Cueva de las Manos). The findings indicate that the hand prints are linked to primitive initiation rites and to beliefs in fertility and healing, and that certain traces of this tradition have survived in the oasis to the present day.
