THE FUNCTIONAL ROLE OF THE CONCEPT OF LOVE IN SHAKESPEARE’S POETICS WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF ENGLISH CULTURAL VALUES

Аннотация
This article analyzes the functional role of the concept of “love” in William Shakespeare’s poetics within the broader cultural and intellectual context of the English Renaissance. Love is interpreted not as a simple emotional or psychological state, but as a complex cognitive-cultural construct that operates across multiple interrelated levels, including cognitive, discursive, semiotic, and axiological dimensions. The study emphasizes how Shakespeare’s poetic language encodes love as a dynamic system of meanings shaped by linguistic expression, cultural norms, and philosophical ideas of the Renaissance period. The findings demonstrate that in Shakespeare’s works, love functions as a central organizing mechanism that integrates language, thought, and cultural value systems. It not only reflects individual emotional experience but also constructs and negotiates broader cultural meanings, moral oppositions, and ideological frameworks of the era. Through metaphorical modeling, semantic shifts, and discursive strategies, Shakespeare represents love as a multifaceted phenomenon that reveals tensions between desire and reason, body and soul, individuality and social order.
