This article scientifically highlights the role and methodological significance of the analysis of artistic works in teaching elementary school students to read expressively and explanatoryly. The role of working on artistic texts in the formation of reading skills in younger school-age students, the expansion of speech and vocabulary, the development of critical and creative thinking, and the inculcation of national and universal values ​​is analyzed separately. The article considers the content of the modern "Reading Literacy", the possibilities of developing aesthetic taste and speech culture in students through the visual representation of artistic texts, and the system of images.
