Abstract
The article is devoted to the study of the genres of historical myths and legends. The purpose of the research is to identify their genre, plot and figurative similarities and differences, to reveal their place in the national thought and their importance in preserving historical memory. Historical myths are mainly associated with historical events and real people, while legends are rich in folk life, everyday experiences and mythical elements. Myths and legends serve the function of preserving the memory of the people, conveying past events to generations, and having a moral and educational impact.
