Urban Development and Urbanization Processes in the Southern Regions of Uzbekistan During the Years of Independence (2000–2010)

This article analyzes the processes of urban planning and urbanization carried out in the southern regions of Uzbekistan, namely the Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya provinces, during 2000–2010. The study examines the impact of legal and regulatory documents adopted during the years of independence on urban development, the preparation and implementation of master plans, the expansion of urban territories, and issues related to population growth. The specific features of urbanization processes are analyzed through the examples of the cities of Qarshi, Termez, and Shahrisabz.
