THE ANCIENT TECHNIQUE OF LIGHTNING STONES IN THE SELUNGUR STONE INDUSTRY

Abstract

This article discusses ancient methods of stone knapping (flaking) employed during the Early Paleolithic, as well as presents new scientific data on the technique of anvil-supported stone percussion identified within the lithic industry of the Selungur Cave site. The stone artifacts from Selungur Cave were analyzed using modern morphological, archaeometric, and techno-typological approaches. The results of the study reveal the presence of an anvil-based stone knapping technique in the Selungur assemblage, a method that has not previously been documented in the Paleolithic record of Central Asia
