The study examines the key drivers behind the emergence of this field, including scientific and technological progress, anthropogenic and industrial disasters (such as the Chernobyl catastrophe), and the historic role of Rachel Carson’s book Silent Spring. Drawing on theoretical frameworks from national and international scholars, the paper systematizes the informational, educational, organizational, supervisory, and socio-evaluative functions of environmental journalism.
