This article analyzes the scientific research conducted by Pakistani Hanafi scholar Muhammad Yusuf Banuri, on the subject of "jarh and ta’dil”, one of the important branches of hadith science, in his commentary "Ma’arif as-Sunan”. It is shown how carefully Banuri presented the judgments on the reliability and weakness of narrators in writing this commentary, and how he relied on historical and scientific grounds rather than personal opinion. It also reveals the sources on which he based his judgments on narrators and the method he used in this regard. This article serves to better understand the judgments on narrators and to study the science of hadith in depth.
