This article analyzes the theoretical and methodological foundations of researching somatic phraseological units within the cognitive and linguoculturological frameworks, modern linguistics' anthropocentric paradigm. It is substantiated that idioms formed on the basis of body part names (somatisms) are not merely linguistic units, but cultural codes reflecting the national mentality and the linguistic picture of the world. In the course of the research, the potential of the conceptual metaphor theory and the methods of linguoculturological interpretation are evaluated.
