CHALLENGES IN TRANSLATING BEHAVIORAL VERBS: A LEXICOGRAPHIC PERSPECTIVE FROM ENGLISH AND UZBEK

This article examines the challenges involved in translating behavioral verbs from a lexicographic perspective in English and Uzbek. Behavioral verbs represent important lexical units expressing moral, psychological, and social actions. Their translation is often complicated by semantic, pragmatic, and cultural differences between languages. Through a comparative analysis of bilingual dictionary entries, the study identifies major translation difficulties and evaluates the degree of equivalence between source and target language units. The findings reveal that many behavioral verbs lack complete equivalents and frequently undergo semantic shifts in translation.
