Аннотация
This article examines the representation of the mahallas of Southern Uzbekistan in historical sources. Based on written sources, archival documents, historical chronicles, the works of travelers and researchers, and scholarly literature, the study explores the stages in the formation and development of the mahalla institution. Particular attention is given to the historical role of the mahalla in social governance, neighborhood relations, traditional customs, and local self-government.
