The article examines the character system and thematic distinctiveness of Uzbek novellas written during the independence period, providing academic insights into specific narrative features within the context of both national and world literature. The arguments are substantiated through an analytical study of the novellas “The Sun Has Not Set Yet” (“Quyosh hali botmagan”) and “The Youth Who Met Khizr” (“Xizr koʻrgan yigit”) by the accomplished writer Luqmon Burixon. The paper analyzes the core ideological essence of the works, the author’s artistic intent, and the complex, contradictory inner worlds and personality traits of the characters. Furthermore, it offers comparative generalizations regarding the literary craftsmanship and expressive style of the author, highlighting stylistic continuities and creative links with the traditions of prominent figures in Uzbek literature (Gafur Gulyam, Togay Murod, Khudayberdi Tukhtabaev) and world literature (Ch. Aytmatov, Mark Twain).
