ABU NASR FARABI’S ATTITUDE TOWARD THE SCIENCE OF ALAM

Abstract
This article is devoted to an analysis of the views of the great thinker Abu Nasr al-Farabi on the science of kalam as presented in his work Ihsa al-Ulum. In this work, al-Farabi divides the sciences existing in his time into five categories and, in the final section, expresses his attitude toward the science of kalam. In Ihsa al-Ulum, al-Farabi offers one of the most comprehensive definitions of the science of kalam. The article also examines al-Farabi’s definition of kalam and his views on this discipline. Moreover, some sources claim that the earliest definition of the science ofkalam was given by al-Farabi, and the article discusses the extent to which such claims are well founded.
