In view of the increasing importance of English for international communication, the development of effective skills has become a major goal of teaching English as a foreign language. However, many students still face difficulties in speaking and written communication due to linguistic, psychological and pedagogical factors. This article argues that speaking and writing, as productive skills, are at the heart of communicative competence and that their development can be enhanced through effective activities and communicative approaches to teaching, particularly through discussions, debates, and case studies that provide meaningful opportunities for authentic language use.
