INTERTEXTUALITY IN WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE’S “HAMLET” AND USMON AZIM’S DRAMAS “KHALIL SULTAN”

This article presents a comparative-typological analysis of the manifestations of intertextuality in William Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet and Usmon Azim’s drama Khalil Sultan. The study examines the relationships between the two works regarding plot, characters, historical-cultural context, artistic motifs, and ideological layers. It demonstrates how themes found in Hamlet—such as power, betrayal, justice, revenge, and internal human conflict—are reinterpreted in Khalil Sultan through the lens of a historical-national setting and the traditions of Uzbek drama. Furthermore, the article highlights how Usmon Azim creatively draws upon the experience of world drama while transforming existing artistic models based on national history and a distinctive poetic sensibility.
