APPLICATION OF THE TERM SUNNAH IN ISLAMIC LAW

Abstract

The article describes technical and terminological meanings of the term of Sunnah and its usage in Islamic law with the examples of madhhabs. Today, the term Sunnah, which is used in the sphere of usul al-fiqh, was officially introduced by Imam Shafi'i in his work "ar-Risala". Until this period, the word Sunnah was used in its lexical and jurisprudential meanings in the hadiths of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and the Companions. A detailed analysis of the opinions regarding the use of the term Sunnah in Islamic law is necessary for the correct application of this term in all areas of Islamic jurisprudence.
