REPRESENTATION OF THE HOMELAND CONCEPT IN THE PRESIDENT'S DISCOURSE THROUGH NATIONAL VALUES (BASED ON THE VALUES OF FREEDOM, LIBERTY)

Abstract

This article discusses representation of the homeland concept through the value of freedom in presidential discourse. Inaugural Addresses and letters addressed to Congress of one of the American presidents, George Bush, were chosen as the material for the research. The article reveals the composition of linguocultural factors underlying the recognition of the concept of freedom as one of the most important American national values in the presidential discourse. The analysis of the relationship between the people, the president and freedom in this discourse has been proven through linguistic evidence that the value of freedom serves as a means of spreading the unique freedom of Americans in the world community, protecting and further developing an independent prosperous homeland - the United States. Three basic concepts of the value Freedom have been identified: 1) the president declares this value to be an important element of the concept of homeland; 2) president addresses the value of freedom within the strategy of tasks of the homeland; 3) the president, as a representative of American national culture, considers this value as a value related to American linguistic culture.
