Abstract

One of the three main sections of the science of arabic balagat is the ilmi bayan. It discusses madjaz (metaphor), one of the artistic means, and its essence, the meanings of madjaz, its types, and its place in the science of balagat. The theoretical ideas are analyzed and conclusions are drawn using examples from Abu Hamid al-Ghazali’s Mukashafatu-l-qulub.
