SYSTEM OF DIRECTED MOTION VERBS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Аннотация
Directional verbs are an integral part of motion verbs in the English language system. Although this lexical semantic group (LSG) makes up a large proportion of the vocabulary content, there are a number of gaps in the study of its system and semantic scope. In particular, the question of the classification of this group of elements in English linguistics has not been consistently considered. Due to the narrowness of the existing classification scope, it remains difficult to understand the linguistic nature of this lexical-semantic group. As a result of the study of the generalizing and distinguishing features of the elements in LSG, the semantic classification of directional action verbs can be of four types. Classification can be done according to the type of direction of the verbs, the performer of the action, the place of the action, and the style of action. Among these, LSG can be fully covered by classifying verbs as up or down, sideways, backward, or forward, depending on the type of direction. Because the means of this group are united under the archetype of "directional movement", that is, the presence of the directional semaphore is the main indicator that gives the verb the "right" to belong to this group.
