Abstract

This article is dedicated to the life and scientific legacy of Muhammad ibn Ahmad Abu Bakr Sarakhsi, who lived and worked in the 11th century. Sarakhsi made a great contribution to the development of Islamic law and through interpreting scholar Muhammad Shaybani’s book “Kitab al-Siyar al-Kabir”, Sarakhsi was first to set forth the “Siyar” – “International Law” as an autonomous discipline within the framework of law. All aspects of law are covered in detail in Sarakhsi’s works.
