The semantic analysis of the different shades of meaning of the lexeme “Islam” in the Qur’an, which is the main source of the Islamic religion, is important for determining the origin, development and place of this concept in Islamic doctrine. This article is devoted to the study of the semantic peculiarities of the lexeme “Islam”, which gave its name to the last religion. Based on the diachronic semantic method, the root slm and its derivatives used in different contexts, as well as their shades of meaning, have been analyzed.
