IMAGE OF THE “NEW WOMAN” IN AMERICAN LITERATURE AT THE DAWN OF THE 20TH CENTURY

The article analyzes the literary heritage of the writer Sinclair Lewis, who made a significant contribution to the American novel of the twentieth century. In particular, brief information is provided about the writer's highly acclaimed novel "Job" created in 1917. The main character of this work is Una Golden and the social problems depicted through her - the role of women in modern society, the balance of marriage and profession, and gender relations in business are artistically illuminated. It is noted that Una Golden is the first full-fledged character in the work of S. Lewis, and this character is also a prototype for subsequent female characters in the author's works. The article analyzes the artistic features of this character and the significance of it in Sinclair Lewis' oeuvre.
