A BRIEF EXAMINATION OF THE LINGUISTIC AND RHETORICAL AESTHETICS IN ZHANG AILING’S THE GOLDEN CHAIN
Syuy Myao
Abstract
This article provides a brief analysis of the rhetorical beauty in Zhang Ailing’s novella The Golden Chain. In the literary context, the conventional analysis of language and text has long gone beyond the literal meaning. The article examines the cultural specificity of language through four aspects: metaphors directly reflecting the characters’ life difficulties; color imagery creating an atmosphere of hopelessness; ironic narration revealing the absurdity of fate; and the rhythm of speech, which enhances emotional tension. The analysis demonstrates how Zhang Ailing, through her unique rhetorical techniques, creates an immediate literary beauty and an artistic experience for the reader.
