Yom Sang-seop’s short stories such as “The Frog in the Laboratory”, “Dark Night”, and “The Last Night of the Year”share a unified approach in terms of style, form, theme, and composition. The implicit ideas embedded within these works are further developed in the story “On the Deathbed”, which represents one of the bold steps in advancing Korean prose to a new stage. Through the use of symbols, metaphors, and artistic details, the author invites readers to interpret and reflect upon the underlying meanings beneath the surface of the narrative.
