Аннотация
This article examines the sociolinguistic features of negative aesthetic evaluation units denoting physical appearancein English and Uzbek. The research focuses on lexical and phraseological units belonging to the semantic field of “ugliness”, includingEnglish units such as ugly, unattractive, plain, hideous and repulsive, as well as Uzbek units such as xunuk, ko‘rimsiz, badbashara, sovuq and yoqimsiz. The aim of the study is to reveal how these units function in speech under the influence of social factors such as age, gender, politeness, communicative situation and cultural norms. The analysis shows that negative aesthetic evaluation is not limited tothe description of appearance; it also reflects social attitudes, emotional distance, cultural etiquette and evaluative stereotypes. In bothlanguages, direct nomination may sound rude, while indirect or softened expressions are used to reduce communicative tension. Thefindings contribute to comparative semantics, sociolinguistics, intercultural communication and the study of evaluative vocabulary inlanguage use.
