SHAKESPEARE'S CREATIVE METHOD: ADAPTATION, COLLABORATION, AND THEATRICAL REFINEMENT

Abstract
This article examines William Shakespeare’s creative methodology, challenging traditional conceptions ofhis work as purely original composition. The study demonstrates that Shakespeare’s plays emerged through a complexprocess of adaptation, collaborative development, and theatrical refinement. Analysis reveals that of thirty-seven playsattributed to him, only approximately five derive from entirely original plots, while the remainder draw extensively fromhistorical chronicles, earlier dramatic works, Italian novellas, and classical sources. Furthermore, Shakespeare’s initialmanuscripts underwent substantial transformation during rehearsal and production processes, with contributions fromfellow actors and dramatists. The findings contribute to scholarly discourse on Shakespearean authorship while offeringbroader implications for understanding creative processes in collaborative artistic environments
