Theoretical and Methodological Approaches to the Study of the Export Potential of Small Entrepreneurship

The article analyzes theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of the export potential of smallentrepreneurship. The relevance of the work is determined by the contradiction between the high number of small andmedium-sized enterprises in the structure of national economies and their disproportionately small contribution to the totalvolume of world exports. The article traces the evolution of theoretical views on export potential — from classical conceptsof international trade (A. Smith, D. Ricardo), through the neoclassical factor-proportions theory (E. Heckscher, B. Ohlin)and M. Porter’s theory of competitive advantage, to contemporary concepts of firm internationalization that most fullyreflect the specifics of small forms of entrepreneurship (Uppsala model, J. Dunning, G. Gereffi). A comparative analysisof resource-based, functional, and institutional methodological approaches to assessing export potential is conducted
