This article analyzes the scholarly contribution of historian and museologistRobert V. Almeev to the study of the history of museums in Uzbekistan, museum theory, and thesocio-cultural development of museum institutions during the years of independence. Particularattention is paid to his interpretation of museums not merely as repositories of exhibits, but asinstitutions of historical memory, national identity, spiritual education, cultural communication,and regional development.
