THE EMERGENCE AND DEVELOPMENT FEATURES OF PHOTOGRAPHIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE IN THE TURKESTAN REGION

Abstract
If we briefly review the content of this article, in the second half of the 19thcentury, the art of photography, which had developed in Europe, was introduced to the Turkestanregion along with the imperial colonial policy. Initially, photography was used for military andpolitical purposes, particularly for governing the region, mapping territories, studying, andcontrolling the local population. In addition to this, photographs depicting local life, nature,architecture, and ethnographic aspects also illustrated the historical and cultural landscape ofTurkestan. The study explores the impact of photography on the local society, its role as a meansof intercultural communication, and its place in the imperial colonial policy. Furthermore,information is provided about the emergence and activities of the first local photographers andforeign photography specialists
