THE MODERN ROLE AND IMPORTANCE OF NEUROLOGY IN MEDICINE

The significant role of neurology for medicine and society is determined by the severity of clinical manifestations and consequences of diseases of the nervous system, as well as huge economic costs associated with neurologic pathology. The article presents a review of the current state and prospects of development of the most socially important sections of modern neurology, which include the study of cerebrovascular, neurodegenerative, demyelinating, hereditary diseases, the establishment of molecular mechanisms of their pathogenesis, the improvement of the methods of therapy, neurorehabilitation and prevention on the basis of new medical technologies. The inseparable interrelation of clinical and fundamental research in the expansion of existing ideas about the structure and functions of the brain in the norm and in different types of pathological processes is emphasized.
