Gallstone disease (GLD) is a disease of the hepatobiliary system, characterized by the formation of changes in the internal bile ducts of the liver, the common bile duct, and the gallbladder. Gallstone disease, according to most statistical analyses, is more common in young and middle-aged women. According to autopsy data, gallstones are found in one in six men and one in four women.
