EVALUATION OF THE RESULTS OF COMBINED NEUROMETABOLIC THERAPY IN CHILDREN WITH TICS: DYNAMICS OF MOTOR AND PSYCHOPATHOLOGICAL SYMPTOMS

tic hyperkinesis represents one of the most prevalent forms of extrapyramidal pathology in the pediatric population. In recent years, there has been growing clinical and research interest in the non-motor manifestations of tic disorders, which frequently include comorbid attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and anxiety disorders. A prevailing hypothesis suggests these neuropsychiatric conditions may share a common underlying pathophysiology. Nevertheless, establishing effective therapeutic strategies for these complex comorbid presentations in children with tic hyperkinesis remains a significant clinical challenge. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of combination pharmacotherapy in improving the core and comorbid symptoms of tic disorders in children, thereby contributing to enhanced therapeutic outcomes. The results of this study indicate that adjunctive therapy with hopantenic acid, in combination with first-line treatment, is effective for the comprehensive management of both motor tics and the common comorbid symptoms of ADHD, OCD, and anxiety in children with tic hyperkinesis. These findings support the utility of a targeted, multi-symptom treatment approach for this patient population.
