SPIRITUAL EDUCATION IN HISTORY OF RUSSIAN EDUCATION

Introduction: The article considers historical ideas about spiritual and moral education to integrate them in the educational process in modern Russian education. In the conditions of modern practice-oriented education, there is a decrease in its educational function at all educational levels, which leads to the weakening of the people and its statehood. Traditionally, Russian culture is characterized by the predominance of the spiritual and moral orientation of education. This should be taken into account when developing strategies and tactics for both upbringing and education. Materials and methods: Analytical and synthetic methods are used in the search and analysis of literature on the topic; the method of generalization is used in determining the essence of the concept of spiritual and moral education. The material for the study was literary monuments and pedagogical scientific works of Russian authors. Research results: The understanding of spiritual and moral education in the history of pedagogical theory and practice is considered, the author's definition of spiritual and moral education is presented. The historical experience of spiritual and moral education in the system and process of education in Russia is studied. The possibilities of its application in modern Russian society are determined. The possibility of a similar analysis of spiritual and moral education in the cultures of other countries to apply traditions in modern education is considered. Discussion and conclusions: The necessity of including spiritual and moral education in the modern educational process is justified and some ways of achieving this are outlined.
