Abstract
To date, no local melon varieties adapted for protected (greenhouse) conditions have been officially zoned in the republic. In 2022, for the first time, a melon variety intended for greenhouse cultivation, named “Zarkhal,” was developed and submitted to the State Variety Testing Agency. Currently, this work is ongoing, and several hybrid combinations of greenhouse melons are being developed. These include: L-160 × Kichkintoy, L-9 × L-22-17, L-7 × Zarhal, Zarhal × L-22-17, E Zarhal × L-22-20, Ananas × L-20-22, L-9 × Galiya, L-22-17 × Galiya, Dove × L-9, and L-22-17 × Ananas. These hybrids are characterized not only by a high marketable yield of 5.0–8.0 kg/m², but also by excellent taste qualities, an average fruit weight of 0.9–1.5 kg, and resistance to diseases such as powdery mildew and Fusarium wilt. The tasting score of the fruits ranged from 4.0 to 4.5 points.
