THE SOCIAL SIGNIFICANCE OF MEDIA EDUCATION AND MEDIA LITERACY IN THE CONTEXT OF GLOBALIZATION

This article analyzes the social significance of media education and media literacy from a sociological perspective within the context of social transformations caused by globalization and the rapid development of information and communication technologies. The necessity of developing students’ critical thinking skills in the context of expanding media space, the growing popularity of digital platforms, and the intensification of information flows is scientifically substantiated. Media education is interpreted as an important factor in socialization, cultural integration, and the enhancement of civic engagement in modern society. The role of media literacy in forming social immunity against disinformation, manipulative content, and information threats is also examined. Based on structural-functional, institutional, and communicative approaches, the article reveals the role of media education and media literacy in ensuring social stability, the development of social consciousness, and information security.
