THE ROLE OF COMPARISONS AS A IMAGATIVE MEANS IN A WORK OF ART

Abstract

This article examines the figurative means of comparison and its role in creating expressiveness in literary texts. We consider the difference between edged and uncut comparisons. The article emphasizes the main role of comparisons – "to convey the external similarity of the objects being compared, to make the object visual, easily representable. The components of figurative comparisons highlighted by T.B. Samarskaya and SM. Mezenin are also discussed. Explicit and implicit figurative comparison with the use of various examples from literary texts is also highlighted.
