THE ROLE OF METAPHORS AS A FIGURATIVE DEVICE IN A WORK OF ART

This article examines the figurative means of language – artistic means based on the use of a word or a combination of words in a figurative meaning to enhance the expressiveness, colorfulness of speech in a literary text. We highlight one of the most commonly used figurative means - metaphor, its functions in a literary text, its role in creating a linguistic picture of the world. We also distinguish several types of metaphors according to N.D. Arutyunova, A.N. Morokhovsky, V.P.Moskvin. The purpose of the article is to show the author's use of figurative means, including metaphors, which give clarity to the image of certain objects and phenomena.
