The article explores the concept of food intake, food consumption in ethnology as the main component of sociocultural identity, ethnic tradition, and material culture of peoples. At the same time, the question of changes in the development of food culture at the end of the twentieth and beginning of the 21st centuries is revealed. Currently, industry experts and researchers are analyzing issues of cooking technology or its nutritional value, as well as relationships between people and the impact of food on social life and the psyche. The article discusses food products of the peoples of the world, traditions of food preferences or vice versa, food restrictions and prohibitions, forms of food organization, traditions and rituals associated with its preparation.
