The results of this study confirm the feasibility of a comprehensive assessment of vitamin D and CRP levels in young children with recurrent respiratory tract infections in a hospital setting. Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency were found in 64.7% of children, with severe deficiency occurring in 32.0%. Patients with severe disease had statistically significantly lower 25(OH)D levels and higher CRP concentrations compared to those with moderate disease (p<0.01–0.001). Low vitamin D levels are associated with a longer febrile period, longer hospital stays, and a higher need for oxygen therapy (OR=2.85). An inverse correlation was found between vitamin D levels and CRP (r=−0.45; p<0.01). Using these indicators in clinical practice not only allows for a deeper understanding of the pathogenesis of RITIs but also improves the accuracy of early risk stratification, which is important for optimizing treatment strategies and preventing severe forms of the disease.
