Annotaciya
This article explores the nuances of translating polysemous (multi-meaning) words from Italian into Uzbek and the significant responsibility this process places on the translator. In the evolution of any language, it is natural for a single word to acquire multiple meanings over time; however, when transferring these meanings from one language to another, this phenomenon often creates complex linguistic challenges. A translator must not only identify the primary definition of a word but also perceive its subtle, hidden layers of meaning and capture the overall essence of the text. The article provides a detailed analysis of the theoretical foundations of polysemy, the necessary skills and experience of a translator, and the critical role of context. Through various examples, it demonstrates how a single word can adopt different tones and implications depending on the situation. Often, a single Italian word may have several equivalent translations in Uzbek, requiring the translator to select the most natural, consistent, and contextually appropriate variant. Research indicates that high-quality translation is not limited to finding the correct dictionary definition; it also requires the translator to feel the internal rhythm of the text, cultural connections, communication style, and the author's intent. Ultimately, this scholarly article serves as a valuable theoretical and practical resource for understanding the mechanics of polysemy in Italian and its application in translation.
