This article analyzes various aspects of the Russian translations of François Villon's poem “Ballade des Dames du temps jadis” (“Ballad of the Ladies of Times Past”). The poem reflects themes of the transience of existence, lost beauty, and the inevitability of oblivion. The translations by I. Ehrenburg, N. Gumilyov, and V. Bryusov demonstrate different approaches to conveying the rhythmic structure, semantic nuances, and philosophical depth of the original, offering deeper insight into its cultural and historical context.
